No discipline for Ezekiel Elliott is right call by Urban Meyer
The play-calling was baffling, of course, and everybody knows it, as the Buckeyes went ultra-conservative and refused to challenge MI State downfield, letting the Spartans’ talented defensive line dictate the flow of the game. Ohio State struggled to move the ball offensively throughout the game, gaining an anemic 132 yards of total offense, the lowest total of any Urban Meyer coached team.
With a soft schedule, the Buckeyes will not overcome the one loss as they will not play in the Big Ten Championship game and have no more opportunities for quality wins. I had so many friends and family here who were kind of just here to cheer Ohio State, but I think they all said that if I was playing they would all switch to the green side. MI State can advance to the Big Ten Football Championship Game – and earn a share of the division title – with a victory over Penn State next Saturday.
“Honestly, this is my last game in the Shoe”, Elliott said. “There’s no chance I’m coming back next year”. “Body language, energy. You watch it, they just mope around when something bad happens”. Offense had a rough day, and I’m disappointed. I can’t speak for the play calling.
The loss broke Ohio State’s 23-game winning streak and also halted Elliott’s streak of 15-straight games with at least 100 yards. No coach in college football has been up to the task of outpreparing and outscheming Saban in a big game like Meyer. We’ll have some momentum, we’ll call some plays that work, and then we kind of try to get away from it, try to get cute and run some other stuff….
“They asked me to do media and I wouldn’t do it, because I was frustrated too”.
“We knew we were the underdogs and we knew we were counted out by a lot of people, but that doesn’t have an impact on our confidence”, Pendleton said.
“I deserve more than (12) carries”.
“Zeke has always been an extremely loyal person, a great competitor”, Meyer said.
On the 12-play, 75-yard drive that tied the game early in the fourth quarter, both Terry and O’Connor used their legs and contributed some key first downs.
“You still hold on to the feeling but I think you use that as motivation. But that’s not the place to do it. He knows that”, Meyer said on Monday at his weekly press conference. I had everybody telling me it was going to be a tight game. Meyer added that Elliott would not be disciplined for his comments. “I remember hearing, ‘They just don’t have the personnel, ‘ and I’m thinking, ‘Wait a minute, they have great personnel.’ They always have great personnel”, he said. “One of the most selfless players I’ve ever coached and been around”.
Following the game in the locker room, Ezekiel Elliott, the star running back of the Buckeyes was talking to reporters.
“Our downhill run game with tempo is something we’re good at, but it’s not something you can do all the time”, he said.
