Stoops: Baker Mayfield Expected To Play In Bedlam
After trailing 30-13 in the fourth quarter, TCU had a chance to tie the game after Kohlhausen’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Emanuel Porter with 51 seconds remaining.
Mayfield was hit hard in the back of the helmet by TCU linebacker Ty Summers during the second quarter of last week’s 30-29 win over the Horned Frogs. Stoops reports if Mayfield has a setback in any way with the medical staff’s protocol and testing, however, he will not play against Oklahoma State.
“If he continues this way with no issues like yesterday and so far today, then he is expected to play”. “To this point, it has checked out well”. There was nothing much impressive about the victory – unless, that is, you value victory.
Washington State: Athletic director Bill Moos says quarterback Luke Falk is doing well after suffering an apparent head injury and might be able to play in Friday’s Apple Cup against Washington.
In the second half, backup quarterback Trevor Knight was ineffective – 5-for-16 for 76 yards – allowing TCU to key on the running game. It’s not as big as it could have been after Baylor beat the Cowboys on Saturday, but a win by Oklahoma would complete a pretty formidable body of work in the regular season – there’s that loss to Texas, but plenty of quality victories, too. He entered the TCU game with the second-best pass efficiency rating in the country, averaging 308.2 yards with 31 touchdown strikes. He has made numerous electrifying plays scrambling, and that puts him at risk.
“Losing Baker hurt us”, defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. People always ask, “why do you go for two?’ Our rule has always been to go get the win on the road”.
Coming into the game without their starting quarterback and a top Heisman contender, the TCU Horned Frogs were looking to step up their level of play and prove to the nation that their hot start wasn’t a fluke. “I wanted to win that game but I do not regret anything I said”.
I am sure there will be plenty of conversations over the next day or two about the two point conversion that was and then wasn’t, but let me go on the record in saying that I have no problem going for broke in that scenario, all things considered. “I’ve had a concussion before and I happened to get one on Saturday. It was a freaky hit”.
“I’m not afraid of concussions”, Mayfield said.
“They’re being careful, and they care about my safety first, so I’m going to roll with that, even though I didn’t agree with it at the time at all”, he said.
