Vine launches on the Apple Watch
Two feeds – favorites and featured – let you see vines the app wants to surface, and those from accounts you’ve tagged as favorites.
The former will show “hand-selected” Vines from the comedy, music and sports sections.
In Favorites, you can watch posts from the creators you’ve selected as a Favorite.
Apple Watch users can now view seven-second looping vines directly from their wrists. But by adding the smartwatch to the fold indicates that Twitter (Vine’s parent company) is committed to making sure the app has as broad a reach as possible. If you have the wearable, you can get the app by opening the Watch app, selecting Vine, and choosing “Show App on Apple Watch”. The user has to tap on the mini-video first in order for the vine to play with its sound.
Vine’s watch app has been in the works since at least June, when it was demoed on stage during an Apple event.
Along with launching on the Apple Watch today, Vine is also updating its iOS app with a new way to discover videos. Notably, the application also includes a watch face complication so users who post videos to Vine can quickly measure their loops.
It’s an iteration on Vine’s suggestion engine introduced in October but, in my experience, it’s pretty fussy.
Users can now swipe left on any post to see more posts of the same kind.
