Meet The French Artist Behind The “Peace For Paris” Illustration
The simple illustration was created by French artist, Jean Jullien, and features the Eiffel Tower merged with a peace sign. “I heard the news on the radio, and I had this heartfelt reaction”, Jullien explained to CNN of the image, created in a sketchbook using brush and ink.
Buildings and monuments in cities around the world were illuminated in the colours of the French flag over the weekend, in a display of solidarity with victims of the attacks which killed 129 people of 19 nationalities. But no concrete proposals have emerged as the summit gets underway.
All through the city Dunmire and others encountered places they couldn’t go because of house-to-house searches for people who may have been involved in the attacks, he said. But this was the first time it was activated for something like this, she said.
This isn’t the first time that Jean’s work has resonated with so many people after a terrorist attack. Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s chief executive, posted just two words on his social network – “So terrible” – with a link to one of the Moments collections. “Six people close to him were reportedly taken into custody on Saturday morning”.
It was initially thought the police were searching for accomplices to the horrifying attacks on Friday, but it turned out that a bomb report was made. The band has cancelled the rest of its tour and have reportedly returned to the United States. The Paris Metro station near the hotel was also shut down by police.
“I can’t say I’m happy because it’s such a tragedy and such a frightful event”, he says.
“[The attacks are] obviously likely to significantly hit the Paris economy in the near term, and there could also be a knock-on effect elsewhere in France”, said Howard Archer, the chief European economist at IHS.
‘And just because this is what I do, I draw, I reacted graphically, just drawing something spontaneously with pen and paper and then sharing it as a raw reaction, ‘ the artist told Slate.
