Washington Defensive End Jason Hatcher: Referee’s “Single Us Out” Because Of
It lingers in their minds. But to blame those calls on the name of the team? But that battle has always been fought on the first floor of the team’s headquarters. To him, they’re targeting the Redskins due to their name. The nickname problem was management’s not theirs. Josh LeRibeus is playing “ok” according to Gruden and because the staff likes his athleticism they remain hopeful that he’ll get better with the snap counts and shotgun snaps. I’m not saying this out of character to get fined, but it is what it is. We players and we work our butt off too. Don’t single us out.
“At the end of the day, it’s the name”, Jason Hatcher told reporters. And, yes, one former former referee, who now works for CBS and has shown a hilarious ineptitude in the booth while analyzing plays that have gone to replay, refused to work Redskins games because he disagreed with the name. Said Hatcher: “We shouldn’t have to be punished for that”. That helps explain the inconsistencies, but it’s more than just that: they have yet to become consistent in the run game on either side of the ball. It is just not right. We done being slaves to this league. We’re National Football League players. We got a team, too. We’re players and we work our butt off too. “I’m going to try to take my completions, take what they give me and be a little more patient'”.
And while we’ve been aware of the fact that Ryan has been overhyped as a defensive guru for years (take this February 2013 column from Knox Bardeen, for instance), he continues getting high-profile coordinating jobs-usually for teams with prolific offenses that just need their defenses to be competent to compete.
Today head coach Jay Gruden addressed some of the many points of concerns about yesterday’s loss.
Several Redskins players complained about a first-half ruling that cornerback Chris Culliver delivered an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on Carolina tight end Greg Olsen on the play that had appeared to put the visitors ahead by a touchdown. What was a 14-14 game after a 99-yard touchdown return by Andre Roberts turned into a 31-14 deficit by halftime.
From the outset of the season, it’s been clear that in addition to trying to improve game plans and roster talent, the Redskins needed to change the franchise’s culture.
The Washington Redskins have to forget the officials, the 28-point defeat and anything else for that matter. When the issue went from a constant simmer to an inferno in 2012, Washington fans and team officials seemed surprised by the outrage.
Gruden knows that in this final six game stretch, “everything” is still available that the team wants: the NFC East division championship. However, the reason that Redskins’ D-lineman Jason Hatcher believes that his team doesn’t get calls is certainly new to me.
