Chris Christie, and a message of hate
So the governor would be loath to defend New Jersey’s Muslims against unfair accusations and risk tempering the message of hate he wants to spread.
Christie brings his plans Tuesday to a Council on Foreign Relations forum in Washington, a venue where Democratic frontrunner and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week spoke on how to contend with terrorism.
Chris Christie, who should know better, went not just over the top but around the bend. “When the Federal Bureau of Investigation director stands up and says that he cannot assure the American people that Syrian refugees can be effectively vetted, that ends the conversation for the moment”, Christie said. They call the effort fear-mongering and point out that the flood of refugees who have been fleeing to Europe and other regions are by in large doing so to escape civil war and ISIS-related violence.
Christie has refocused his campaign in the wake of the Paris attacks as the 2016 race has lately centered on terrorism and national security, all of which have played to Christie’s background as a prosecutor in the NY area.
“So let’s set up a no-fly zone in Syria and a safe zone there”, Christie said.
Christie charged that Obama and his administration had underestimated ISIS – a “cult of evil” that has “visited too many places, in addition to Paris”.
“The goal and the intent of the American president has to be first and foremost to prevent another generation of those widows and orphans on American soil”, he said.
To make his point, he retold his intensely personal tale of trying to find his wife, who was at work in lower Manhattan when the planes hit on September 11, 2001. “But my focus is different than his”, Mr. Christie said.
“I do not remember that, and so it’s not something that was part of my recollection”. Christie reiterated the need for a strong, decisive President who sees the world as it really is and not how he or she wishes it would be.
Christie was noncommittal on whether it happened, but said he didn’t recall anything of the sort. “But I don’t remember that”.
However, Christie is struggling in the polls. But there are signs of life.
Tomorrow, Christie heads to Washington D.C. where he will will deliver remarks and take questions to outline critical steps needed to course correct the Obama Administration’s weakening of U.S intelligence capabilities and homeland security and law enforcement coordination.
