Officials admit mistake on inadvertent whistle during Patriots-Bills game
The injuries keep piling up for the New England Patriots.
But so do the wins.
Following a 41-yard pass to Amendola, who finished with nine catches for 117 yards, the Patriots went back up by a touchdown on a six-yard White run.
For the record: The Patriots and Panthers are two 10-0 teams left in the NFL.
It led to an uneven win.
“We’ve just got to do things better if we want to score more points, and I always talk about just execution, us all being on the same page”. I think we need to do a better job of coaching, do a better job of playing. Weird how the whistle came right as Brady was about to get hit. “He doesn’t take risks”. It also resulted in Rex Ryan getting penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.
“He likes me, I know that”.
LeSean McCoy #25 of the Buffalo Bills carries the ball during the second quarter against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on November 23, 2015 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Once again, the Patriots overcame adversity to get that win.
“Really, it’s so much up in the air”, Ryan said Tuesday, during his weekly radio show on Buffalo’s WGR-AM, a day after a 20-13 loss at New England. The Patriots have swept the season series with Buffalo.
The defense continued its strong play, holding the Bills potent running game to just 3.1 yards per carry and gave Tyrod Taylor enough looks to hold the Bills passing game in check. Late in the fourth, Taylor was clearly in pain, grabbing his shoulder after every throw.
It wasn’t a good night for the officials who on national television provided more fodder for those who believe that they get worse and worse every week.
The play had been blown dead because Bills head coach Rex Ryan had interfered with the side judge on the sideline (which was the only fair part about how the call unfolded).
Just make sure the officials know when to blow their whistles. Blandino also admitted wondering the reason for the whistle as he watched in real time, and added “It was a mistake”. Amendola then caught the ball and had a wide open field in front of him. “Anything I can do to help this team win, I’m going to try and do it and it felt good to put some points on the board”, he said. For the runner to surrender himself, he has to truly give up on the play – such as when a quarterback slides before taking a hit. But in New England, in this year of blatant f***-you’s, no slight, however small, is considered inadvertent. “We came up short many times”.
Referee Gene Steratore issued a pool report on why Ryan was flagged, saying “That could be a multitude of things”.
NOTES: Game time temperature was 29 degrees with a wind chill of 21. Occasionally, Gronkowski was guarded by cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Ronald Darby, but the key was to play physical with the tight end throughout the game so that he couldn’t get free releases off the line of scrimmage.
Brady refused to blame the Patriots’ mounting injury list for a shaky offensive performance.
Things were looking up with Marcus Cannon and Sebastian Vollmer returning from injuries and the thought was that the offensive line should get a boost.
Ryan acknowledged he was so concerned about Taylor being hurt that he was ready to insert backup EJ Manuel. The Patriots observed a moment of silence before the game for Ezra Schwartz, the local teenager and Patriots fan killed in a terror attack on the West Bank last week.
