BMW 1-Series sedan previewed
In the Guangzhuo Auto Show in China, BMW has unmasked what is the Concept Compact Sedan, which could be the new BMW 1 Series, or 2 Series for that matter – though what has been showcased by the Bavarian automaker is merely aesthetic, so we don’t know what power this pretty little compact possesses.
The BMW 1 Series sedan is the German giant’s answer to the likes of Mercedes CLA and Audi A3. The concept that was showed in Guangzhou came with a long wheelbase with a greenhouse fitted behind the hood.
As for the 1 Series sedan’s engines, the current 2 Series Active Tourer provides our best clue yet, with entry versions nearly sure to be powered by BMW’s 1.5-litre three-cyinder turbopetrol and upper versions charged along by the familiar 2-litre turbopetrol four.
The new BMW compact sedan follows the BMW design philosophy that is seen on the likes of the other larger sedans and coupes.
Having said that, BMW has just revealed their latest concept known as the Concept Compact Sedan, which could very well the basis for the upcoming 1 Series sedan. It was also fitted with a set of 20inch split spoke alloy wheels. The interior is also highlighted by orange-coloured ambience lighting. And this has had the whole town talking about it, questioning the validity of a front-wheel-drive sedan being a true BMW. Expect the cars to also get the petrol and diesel motors from the Mini range of vehicles with a hotter 1M version possibly packing in an all-wheel-drive drivetrain in the most expensive variants.
