House Vote Shows Democrats Distrust of Obama’s Syrian Refugee Plan
The views expressed are his own.
Blunt has been calling on Obama to put together a comprehensive plan to combat ISIS since the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.
About 10 percent of the population in Syria is Christians, and the Christian minority is among the main civilian target of the Islamic State terror group, also known as ISIS or ISIL. Comey also made it very clear that serious gaps remain in the screening process for refugees particulary those coming from Syria. We are at war with the Islamic State and their radical Islamic ideology. “It is the most robust screening process for any category of individuals seeking admittance into the United States”.
“That’s when we’re the shining light on the hill”, he said.
The sad truth, though, is that there are many people who would like to take advantage of our compassion. “They showed us once again the depths of the terrorist’s depravity”, he said.
“In the wake of these awful events, I understand the anxiety that many Americans feel”.
“Where does it say in your state’s constitution that you can refuse a person placed by the Federal Government?” he said in the email. Here’s the situation: Every year, the administration sets the maximum number of refugees the program will accept from each region of the world. “The process is multi-layered and intensive, involving multiple law enforcement, national security and intelligence agencies across the federal government”.
“We have tremendous faith in this system’s ability to detect, investigate and disrupt terrorist plotting in this country as it has done repeatedly, ” Secretary of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a letter to Bryant and other governors on Friday. “Refugees wait 18-24 months while the screening process is completed”. Why not convene a meeting with governors from both parties on all sides of this debate, showing that the administration takes their misgivings seriously, is open to improvements and, most importantly, wants to bring the discussion back to a rational level? “Each refugee is then interviewed face-to-face by highly skilled immigration analysts who undergo special training to spot inconsistencies in information or attempts by someone to hide their true identity in some way”. That is definitely a challenge…. He noted that “if we don’t know much about somebody, there won’t be anything in our data”.
Dozens of House Democratic lawmakers voted with the GOP last Thursday to overwhelmingly pass legislation that many would say would halt Obama’s plan to resettle 10,000 Syrians in the United States.
The House legislation ensures refugees will be properly scrutinized before being allowed into the country. But almost 50 Democrats joined them in last week’s vote, either succumbing to fear or, worse, crassly politicizing the desperate straits of refugees.
The bill imposes no religious test. It simply insists on greater security.
America is a compassionate country. But we can be compassionate and safe at the same time. It’s who we are as a Nation. “No Syrian or Iraqi refugee is able to enter the country without these clearances”.
The threat is serious, and it will not go away anytime soon.
