“Doo-Doo the Clown” rescues women
The women managed to get into the clown auto before the man started attacking the vehicle.
Shane Farberman, a Toronto-based clown who goes by “Doo Doo the global Clown”, attracted worldwide attention after he saved two women from an assault last Sunday.
News of the rescue prompted Councillor Norm Kelly to award Doo Doo the Clown with a scroll recognizing his act of bravery at Toronto City Hall Monday afternoon.
“I remember pulling up as fast as I can screaming “get in, get in” and I know that I am a clown and I had a vehicle full of clowns, but these ladies ran and jumped into the back”, said Doo Doo in a phone interview with CBC News.
“He came at the auto like this – “bang, bang, bang” – like, four times”, Farberman said.
For over 30 years, he’s been known as a clown.
When your city needs a hero, sometimes you have to send in the clown.
As he trailed him, Farberman saw the man take a swipe at two women walking in the opposite direction.
Even though the man banged on the vehicle, smashing its window and ripping off a side mirror, Farberman and the women held out until the police arrived; Farberman had dialled 911 when he first spotted the man acting suspiciously.
For a clown used to making a spectacle, this was like nothing he’d ever seen before. He reportedly screamed at the women to get into his auto.
“You’re right – I look for attention”, Farberman said.
It’s an incident that has left this usually upbeat entertainer shaken. “See, I can’t say it. I get emotional”.
Police said he is now in their custody and charges are pending.
As for Doo Doo, he’s not got a story that matches his catchphrase: “Unbelievable!”
