Miles vows to do his job
LSU head football coach Les Miles could be out of a job by the end of the week, according to several reports out Monday.
Miles did meet with his staff Monday morning about his job status. “Let’s coach them hard and go away with victory”, Miles said Monday.
If they cant land Fisher, their main target, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, TCU head coach Gary Patterson and even former National Football League coach Jon Gruden would be approached to replace Miles. I’ve also heard that current D-Line Coach Ed Orgeron could be named the interim coach for the time being.
LSU has lost three consecutive games to fall to 7-3, including a loss to Alabama that knocked the Tigers from the top of the SEC West standings, prompting reports that the Tiger Athletic Foundation is prepared to pay a massive buyout of $15 million to part ways with its 11th-year coach. LSU is 7-3 this season, and their worst finish under Miles is 8-5.
The Tigers should allow Miles to play out this season, including whatever disappointing bowl game the Bayou Bengals play in.
“I don’t know if I can go back and do an accurate recollection, to be honest”, he said.
LSU won that second national championship with Matt Flynn as quarterback.
Ultimately, Fisher convinced the right people to see his vision, more boosters started opening their checkbooks, and Florida State no longer was a program getting by on the cheap.
In his 11 seasons at LSU, Miles has one national championship, played for another and two conference titles while winning 77 percent of his overall games (110-32) and 69 percent of his conference contests (60-27) playing in the toughest conference in the nation.
It sounds insane, but the Mad Matter, Les Miles, may really be on the hot seat at LSU.
Some gathered around televisions in the program’s training room watching Miles’ weekly news conference, shown live on ESPN2, a rarity.
“Just want to get me out of the way as best I can”, Miles said in reference to himself as a topic as he opened his press luncheon.
“It’s also the comparison to Alabama and Nick Saban”. That’s a policy that I have. His commitment has always been in question and most considered him likely to not follow through with LSU considering the pending departure of Cam Cameron.
On this edition of The Nolecast, Bud Elliott and Ingram Smith discuss the LSU Job and LSU’s reported interest in Jimbo Fisher. The Advocate initially learned of the growing movement within LSU to remove their longtime football coach.
The LSU defense was ranked in the top 15 nationally in fewest yards allowed before the losing streak, but it has given up 30 or more points and 400-plus yards in each of the three losses.
Sources told Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports the decision is not final, but the “staggering” buyout won’t prevent LSU from cutting ties with Miles.
