Watch the new trailer for The Revenant! Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom
“The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit”, according to 20th Century Fox’s caption for the trailer.
In addition to the Titanic star and Tom, the cast of the flick features an nearly all-male cast including: Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter, Paul Anderson, Brendan Fletcher, Brad Carter and Robert Moloney. In the film, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a fur trapper brutally injured in a clash with a bear. Indeed, while fans are right to be jazzed about Quentin Tarantino’s full embrace of the genre that’s also coming in 70mm, fellow visionary director Alejandro G. His party thought he was as good as dead, so they took away his gun, knife and supplies and left him at his presumed final resting place. As for Hardy, except for the clear shot on him when his name is mentioned, you will have trouble spotting him, especially since he doesn’t get a single line in the trailer.
It’s all seen more or less from Glass’s point of view, and the thumping score gives way to the character’s quick, labored breathing as the action intensifies and the clip climaxes.
The Revenant is scheduled for a December 25 release, which will put it up against Quentin Tarantino’s new western, The Hateful Eight.
The trailer goes on to showcase a chaotic battle in the woods, an apparent dispute between Glass and his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), the bear attack and Glass’ quest for vengeance.
Given the pedigree on board, the subject matter and release date, “The Revenant” seems poised to make a run at Oscars of any sort.
