The Force Awakens – Leia’s new title revealed
That is not my name!
New details have been revealed about the pirate queen Maz Kanata, a new character played by Lupita Nyong’o in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Finally, one of the many mysteries surrounding Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been answered: that new character standing beside R2-D2 and C-3PO on the poster for the movie? We still don’t entirely know what Han Solo, and especially Luke Skywalker, are up to when this film begins, but we know that Leia’s kept fighting, and that she’s not exactly happy about it. Nevertheless, some characters might struggle to see her in a new light.
While Fisher jokes about Leia’s new title, the daughter of Darth Vader has a lot on her plate when she arrives in Episode VII. According to EW, director J.J. Abrams said, “She’s referred to as General”.
“I think we’re pretty sick of each other by now, so we pretend to be interested in each other between takes”, she remarked.
“Her history is that she was a pirate for a long time”. Be that as it may, it felt memorable to have her, particularly with Harrison, back in scenes together. J.J. Abrams was well aware of the disparity.
In the 30 years since the events of Return of the Jedi, we’ll learn, Leia has become something of a military strategist, and is now reffered to as General Leia. J Abrams further revealed he has added a moment in the movie which refers to her old titled.
Abrams is one of the most exciting filmmakers around and I can not wait to see him put his own stamp on this already iconic franchise.
She runs a watering hole the director said will remind fans of another desert planet bar elsewhere in the Star Wars galaxy, but much of her backstory will be explored in “other venues” outside of the film.
