Obama Honoring Spielberg, Streisand and More With Medal of Freedom
They were among 17 who will be presented with the medal November 24 by President Barack Obama at the White House in Washington, DC.
Among those receiving this distinction are mathematician Katherine G. Johnson, 97, baseball legend Willie Mays, 84, and entertainment icon Barbra Streisand, 73!

Last September 22, Berra passed away at the age 90, but on Tuesday he will posthumously receive an exclusive and prestigious award from the President, when he and fellow Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Willie Mays receive the Medal of Freedom.
Thanks in large part to Lindsay’s tireless campaigning on social media, the petition garnered more than 100,000 signatures in a month.
“You don’t want to be on the wrong side of Barbara Mikulski”, the president quipped.
“I hope we can break the gridlock, the deadlock and really get our country going”, she said.
“I probably would’ve choked”, she added. Ten years later, he again led the EPA from 1983-85 after an appointment from President Ronald Reagan. Carmen, Berra’s wife, had saved the invitations.
“Growing up in east Baltimore was a real community”, she said.
Hamilton was an early supporter of Obama when he announced he was running for president.
“Grandpa said he ought to meet him sometime”, Lindsay said. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, former Rep. Lee Hamilton from IN and the late Rep. Shirley Chisholm from NY, the first African-American woman elected to Congress.
“As everyone knows, Willie is a national treasure and one of the greatest players in the history of baseball”, Giants CEO Larry Baer said on behalf of the team.
This past week, Berra’s granddaughter, Lindsay, joined the morning talk show Fox & Friends to discuss her grandfather’s impact on her and what the Medal will mean for his enduring legacy.
