Retailers counting on Thanksgiving, Black Friday sales in stores and online
Recent years have revealed a ridiculous trend of stores opening even earlier for Black Friday sales – doors often open on Thanksgiving evening.
This year will also see more retailers syncing online deals with those offered in stores, including Walmart and Target, which will both offer most of the same so-called doorbuster deals online and in stores on Thursday.
In recent years, however, Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, has been creeping into Thanksgiving. Investors are increasingly anxious that traditional retailers are struggling to compete against online rivals such as Amazon.com.
The outdoor store REI, which has a location in Brookfield, will be closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, with company executives paying their employees not to work. J.C. Penney shoppers can get special online deal through Wednesday, with the department store planning to launch its Cyber Monday offers on Sunday. Cyber Monday has been a popular shopping day as well, however, numerous retailers have already made their online shopping deals available to their consumers.
For some people, an extra helping on Thanksgiving may give them the energy they need to get through “Black Friday”. The Wal-Mart co-manager expects big crowds on Thursday.
