Johnny Manziel benched by Cleveland

It was a decision that was still being discussed. “Videos can be all kinds of different things”, he said. This move doesn’t make a ton of sense to me, but whatever.

Following those comments in front of members of the Cleveland, a final decision was made just a couple of hours later. Before leaving for the five-day break, Manziel said he promised Pettine he wouldn’t embarrass the organization.

One week ago Johnny Manziel was named the Browns’ starting quarterback. However, the video and reports from Manziel’s activities this weekend were apparently enough to facilitate his benching, as Pettine claims to have the full support of general manager Ray Farmer and owner Jimmy Haslam.

Browns coach Mike Pettine called the behavior, which comes after an offseason trip to rehab, “disappointing” and “frustrating”. “It goes well beyond the field”, the Browns’ statement continued and added that the franchise is “going to continue to support” the second year pro.

Furthermore, Pettine said backup Josh McCown, who was out with a rib injury, is “good to go”, if he needs to start.

“He’s done everything that’s asked as far as meetings and studying and trying to improve as a quarterback”, McCown said. We’ll work through it, if that’s the case. “I’m behind the guy 100% and want nothing but the best for him”.

“I’m not in a state to be able to speak on it because my focus has been on this today and what really matters in this game on Monday”. But I feel like I always see and believe the good in people. We may not be there yet, but we’ve gained some ground. “So I haven’t seen anything like that, and I’m not going to be able to speculate on it right now”.
