Retro City Rampage is getting a 16-bit sequel
Retro City Rampage was a great throwback to games of old and now Vblank Entertainment is looking to follow it up with Shakedown Hawaii. It’ll have destructible environments and “an arsenal of supercharged weapons”.
Brian Provinciano, the game’s creator/programmer/designer, has officially revealed the sequel: Shakedown Hawaii for the PS4 and PS Vita (via the PlayStation Blog).
First released in 2012, Retro City Rampage delivered a tongue-in-cheek, NES-era tribute to Grand Theft Auto, and it’s spent the last couple years since being ported to all manner of platforms.
Shakedown Hawaii will again feature top-down visuals and elements inspired by games of yore, but now in 16 rather than 8-bit.
More details are promised to be shared to coincide with Sony’s PlayStation Experience, which will take place in San Francisco between Saturday 5th – Sunday 6th December. Vblank tells Polygon that a 3DS release is being targeted, and it’s waiting to hear more about Nintendo’s next-gen “NX” console before it makes a decision on a port.
