Spartans upset Buckeyes 17-14
Many, if not all, MI State football fans were watching the game against Ohio State on ABC Saturday, not listening to the great broadcast of George Blaha on the Spartan Sports Network.
“I’ll say that is the most important kick I have ever made in my entire life”, Geiger said.
After Ohio State’s 17-14 loss to MI State, Elliott said he was “disappointed” in the play calling that resulted in only 12 carries for the star tailback.
Harbaugh, a former MI quarterback who has played in the rivalry and famously guaranteed victory in 1986, will coach the Wolverines for the first time in the series when the teams meet on Saturday at MI Stadium.
MI (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten) is seeking its first 10-win season since 2011 (11-2 under Brady Hoke) and its third since 2006 (11-2 under Lloyd Carr).
Smith said that although he wishes Elliott kept his comments private, “we’ve got to recognize today that people have rights and he’s a man growing”. Elliott expressed frustration that the Buckeye coaching staff didn’t call more running plays during the loss.
Heisman candidate Ezekiel Elliot had just 12 carries for a career-low 33 yards as a starter with a score but was openly critical of the Buckeyes offensive play selection after the game. The fifth ranked team in the country is making a strong case for being included in the CFP and should get more support this week, unless the committee is hell bent on keeping Notre Dame in the conversation. “I’ve been through a lot this year, and I don’t know what good is going to come from it, but I’m convinced that eventually we’re going to see something good come from this”.
“I think it’ll kind of light a fire under us that we did (lose)”, left tackle Taylor Decker said. “It just hurts. It hurts a lot”.
What’s at stake for Ohio State this weekend? The Spartans displayed outstanding gap integrity every time the Buckeyes tried to run wide. All three didn’t seem too concerned overall, especially after Elliott issued an apology on social media the following day.
I was relieved when we learned Connor Cook wouldn’t be good to go against Ohio State last week (because Ohio State needed to win), but I was also a little disappointed.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer knew the questions were coming. I really believe that everything happens for a reason. “I remember hearing, ‘They just don’t have the personnel, ‘ and I’m thinking, ‘Wait a minute, they have great personnel.’ They always have great personnel”, he said. I don’t know what they were seeing. “They weren’t We weren’t put in the right situation to win this game”.
Who is responsible? Meyer said the only thing he could publicly – point fingers at me. “I’ve gone the whole season knowing this was going to be a tight game”. “I have to do better“. We didn’t…[we were] very conservative.
