Man in critical condition after Ohio State Mirror Lake jump
Update November 25 at 4:45 a.m.: Director of Public Safety Vernon Baisden said outside Pomerene Hall that the unidentified male who was removed from Mirror Lake early Wednesday morning is in critical condition at Wexner Medical Center.
Ohio State plans to end the traditional student-led Mirror Lake jump during the week of the MI football game after the death of a participant on Tuesday night.
Police shut down last night’s event after the man was pulled from the lake. According to The Columbus Dispatch, the man was suffering from cardiac arrest. “He is African American and medium build with tattoos on his left upper chest and right upper arm”.
Officials have not yet determined who the man is, and are asking that anyone who knows him call OSU police at 614-292-2121.
Officials aren’t saying yet whether the university will ban the event in the future.
Mirror Lake is not intended for swimming. Students jump into the lake ahead of Ohio State-Michigan Wolverines matchup to raise the spirits of their favorite football team.
Now the university urges students via Twitter to not jump into the lake’s cold waters.
OSU’s Emergency Management and Fire Prevention recently announced that they would share new info as soon as it becomes available.
