Adele Has Broken a Single Week Record Selling Over 2 Million Albums
He wrote: “We officially say Bye Bye Bye as @Adele says Hello to the World Record of Most Albums Sold In a Single Week”.
Adele’s sales are reportedly fairly evenly split between CD sales and digital album sales.
The album has been driven by the success of its lead single, ‘Hello, ‘ which debuted last month and has sold more than 2.5 million digital copies.
The first sales reports from Adele’s 25 landed with a ceremonious wallop, for the pop singer with the mightiest voice absolutely killed the sales charts. “It was a flattering luxury knowing we sold more records than anyone in a week but it’s also nice seeing people continue to be passionate about music in the next generations”.
In just over three days, 25 is already the top-selling album of the year so far, outpacing the 1.8 million copies Taylor Swift’s blockbuster 1989 has sold in 2015. “Adele’s album is not just slipping by ‘NSync’s record, it’s going to destroy it”.
Industry forecasters suggest the album could finish the week with 2.9 million sold, because Adele can shatter even numbers by the power of her voice alone.
The $15-billion (U.S.) global music industry saw no growth in 2014, and, given that those revenues have halved since 2000, the sales of 25 are astonishing.
Last night the album was reported to be only 80,000 copies short of breaking the United Kingdom record for one-week album sales currently held by Oasis with “Be Here Now”. The eighth album by the Barbadian shape-shifter Rihanna, “Anti-“, reportedly will be available exclusively to subscribers of the high-quality streaming service Tidal during its first week of release, which is expected to commence on Friday. Prior to Nielson Music, it was unknown how many copies of an album or single were sold in a single week.
