Baker Mayfield leaves OU game, admits to headache at halftime
“I wanted to win that game but I do not regret anything I said”. For now, the best, and worst, of a Saturday night in Norman. We talk all that and more!
It came down to one play, and Steven Parker made it. “I just hate I had to watch the rest of that game from the sideline”. “Hopefully he’ll go down when he can, get out of bounds when he can avoid some of that”.
“They’re being careful, and they care about my safety first, so I’m going to roll with that, even though I didn’t agree with it at the time at all”, he said.
“I knew if I stayed on the guy, the quarterback was gonna run it in (for the score) easily”, Parker said. Stoops said he would bring Mayfield along gradually in practice, with limited participation Monday. But, it will also be up to the staff to adjust to his skill set if he does indeed become the man going forward. Oklahoma ultimately controlled the tempo of the game on the ground, which is so critical against an explosive squad like TCU. The second half became a slog. But the rush defense was abhorrent. “But our kids fought back and played the way they needed to”. TCU linebacker Ty Summers was ejected for targeting after the hit. Should he be unable to start, Patterson indicated that third-string QB Bram Kohlhausen has the current edge over second-stringer Foster Sawyer given Kohlhausen’s play in the second half of Saturday’s 30-29 loss to Oklahoma. Green’s 6-yard run and a defensive holding penalty got the ball to the OU 45. Oklahoma’s offense looked in trouble early in the second half when Perine and Joe Mixon, who shares carries with Perine, went out with apparent ankle injuries on successive drives.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has shown signs since his concussion that he could be ready for Saturday’s pivotal game against Oklahoma State. And then at halftime, they approached him again, wanting to go over some things, and Baker admitted to having a headache. While I applaud his push for extra yards, and while I recognize that maybe the whistle should have been blown a bit earlier, that fumble problem has followed TJ throughout his career. Their prism on this season has at times seemed distorted. We’ve had a lot of excellent games, and we’re due for one that isn’t. I recall that he also played exceptionally well late that season in a big road win at Kansas State, but other than those two games, the Sooners have not been all that spectacular on offense with Knight at quarterback. It was a heck of a play, and had TCU made the next one, he would be a hero.
“There’s certainly room for optimism, but we do have a protocol we have to go through – some serial testing and progressions of activity, and we’re in the midst of that now”, he said. And that kills me, because I care so much about the team.
