Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo comes to the streets in 2016 model year
The 2016 Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo is on sale now across Europe.
But it’s not the 30 Yahre Edition M5 that was built by BMW itself earlier in the year that seeks to clean the clocks of AMG-powered Mercedes sedans – tuning house Alpina has just taken the wraps off the new B5 Biturbo packing 600 and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Both the sedan and Touring B5 complete the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 4.2 seconds, with the four-door model proving to be a little bit faster from there on, reaching the 200km/h (124mph) mark in 12.7 seconds (Touring: 12.8 sec) and topping out at 328 km/h or 204 miles per hour (Touring: 323 km/h or 201 mph).
Despite the performance enhancements, it remains just as environmentally friendly, with unchanged fuel consumption of 9.5L/100km, and emissions of 221g/km of CO2. But interestingly, the Alpina B5 gets a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic in place of the M5’s seven-speed M-DCT dual-clutch box.
The Alpina B5 Biturbo also benefits from a more aggressive suspension, body kit, and an upgraded interior to completee the package while a mechanical limited-slip differential by Drexler Motor Sport is added to boost handling. The Edition 50’s custom paintwork, decals, cabin trims and signed plaque are not carried over – although every Alpina is individually numbered anyway.
Optional extras include an Akrapovic titanium exhaust (17kg lighter than the standard system) and larger brakes. The new 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels are a key feature among the usual Alpina exterior styling mods.
Like all Alpina models, the B5 biturbo comes with BMW’s two-year factory warranty, and will be priced from 108,600 euros (RM494,594) for the Saloon, and 119,900 euros (RM546,057) for the Touring.
