House panel wants to interview Planned Parenthood official
This evening, when I realized the website for StemExpress, the organization whose brochure emphasizes the “financial benefit” such fetal tissue can provide for clinics, was back online after being broken for the last couple of days. “Click to watch Richards” apologyNucatola is heard in the video referring to fetal hearts, lungs and livers and to efforts to retrieve these organs intact rather than crush them during an abortion procedure.
“I am deeply troubled by the recent allegations against Planned Parenthood”, said Koenig, a candidate for state senate in 2016.
But it was Nucatola’s offhand manner over the secretly taped lunch that disturbed many people, including members of Congress and others who are demanding investigations.
Congressional Democrats and Planned Parenthood said the video was edited to take out portions when the Planned Parenthood official makes it clear the group doesn’t profit from making fetal tissue available for medical research, but only collects fees to cover expenses, which is allowed by federal law.
I’ve long supported a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body up to a point, hoping that abortion is a choice made rarely and early.
“Gov. Nathan Deal is committed to protecting life at all stages, particularly the most vulnerable and defenseless among us”, governor’s office spokesman Brian Robinson said in a statement.
The videotaped discussion, he wrote, “raises questions about whether the actions of abortion providers, and in particular those employed by Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, are consistent with federal law”.
“The practices described in news reports and discussed in that video are horrific and should be universally condemned, regardless of one’s personal views on abortion”, said House Speaker William J.
Justice Department officials did not immediately answer a request for comment.
Ohio’s top law enforcer says he’s investigating whether Planned Parenthood may have violated its nonprofit status and made money from the sale of organs from aborted fetuses. But what exactly is fetal tissue used for in medical research, and what are the ethical issues surrounding its use?
The video showed a top Planned Parenthood doctor admitting clinics routinely sell body parts after abortions.
Planned Parenthood Southeast, which operates clinics in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, calls the charges “completely false” and says they are based on politics.
“Our service centers and ambulatory surgical centers do not participate in any tissue donation programs but it is standard practice in the medical community, but because we don’t participate in these programs I’m not as familiar with them”, Wheat said. “We will never let that happen”.
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin executive director Tanya Atkinson said Kremer’s call for an investigation is part of a series of “ongoing and unwarranted political attacks” on the organization.
