Warriors Move to 14-0 With Thrilling Win Over Bulls
It takes more than one star player to put a team in the position Golden State is in, and the strong supporting cast behind Stephen Curry offered proof of that while putting the Warriors on the brink of National Basketball Association history.
The Golden State Warriors appeared on their way to extending their 19-game home winning streak when the Chicago Bulls visited Oracle Arena in January, holding an 11-point lead with less than nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors could tie the all-time mark – set by Washington in 1948-49 and matched by Houston in 1993-94 – when they play at Denver on Sunday. “It’d be a huge accomplishment because doing something that hasn’t been done in the history of the league is special”. There are so many variables that go into winning this many in a row to start.
“No matter how bad we’re playing, we always feel like we have a shot”, said Curry, who also pulled down 11 rebounds.
“We understand how hard you have to play in order to win in this league, and everybody has bought into that”, said Jimmy Butler, who had 28 points.
Harrison Barnes added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors in a game featuring 18 lead changes and 17 ties.
“We preach and we talk about it (morale) all the time”, Sixers coach Brett Brown said. Not only is Curry averaging over 34 points per contest, he’s shooting 11.5 three-pointers per game and making 45.3 percent of them. Rose is battling ankle issues right now and he sat out the Bulls 103-97 win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. night.
Whoever is in the lineup should take pointers from how the Bulls have defended Curry in recent years.
Golden State is 6-0 away from home but dropped its most recent visit to Denver on March 13.
The pivotal point of Golden State’s victory over the Bulls on Friday night that ran the Warriors’ record to 14-0 was an offensive rebound. Stephen Curry led the team in scoring with 27 points on 9-for-20 shooting.
Knight scored 17 points in the fourth to lead the comeback.
Up 96-92 with a minute and a half to play, Barnes stroked back-to-back three-pointers, the latter of which gave the Warriors a 102-92 lead and sealed the victory.
In the end, the Bulls became another Warriors’ victim.
– Chris Paul returned to the court after missing the last two games with a strained right groin, but J.J. Redick (back spasms) remains out.
The Warriors lost at Denver in their only game there last season during their 67-win campaign, but had some good reasons for a letdown.
Celtics 120, Nets 95: Boston’s Avery Bradley reached double figures for the fourth straight game, finishing with a game-high 21 points off the bench to power the Celtics to a 120-95 rout of the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden. “But now that we’re within striking distance, we can answer that question – it’s real, and we want to get there”.
It would require more than just keeping the MVP to an off-night and have him commit more turnovers than usual. At minimum, it requires securing the rebound so the Warriors don’t get an even better 3-point look.
