Men in Black 4 Will Feature a Female Lead
It’s certainly welcome news that MacDonald and Parkes are angling the next installment as a change of pace, not least because of its female lead.
However they did confirm they were considering bringing back the Men In Black franchise as a series of three films. In black. Of course. But a new announcement dropped by producer Laurie Macdonald during an interview with the BBC heralds another expression of the Men In Black franchise finally catching up with the times. MacDonald and her husband Walter Parkes have worked as producers on the previous three films and are returning again to work on the fourth. What do we think, gang? “We are quite early on in it”, Parkes told Newsbeat. The likelihood of a female MiB agent seemed well and truly quashed in Men In Black 2, which ignored the introduction of Linda Fiorentino’s suited-and-booted enforcer at the end of the first movie. Emma Thompson was also Agent O in Men In Black III, but that movie never happened. Now we are looking at a reinvention. However, they all played second or even fourth fiddle to Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. “But it’s a wonderful world to get back into”.
‘It sounds silly because it’s a fun, science fiction comedy but when you work on these things you sort of try to find some thematic basis underneath it.
We’re still not sure when Men In Black 4 will see the light of day, but if the script is still in its infancy, we probably have to wait around a year or so before that’s announced.
