Protecting the safety, security, and health of Canadians and refugees is a key factor in guiding the Government of Canada’s actions throughout this initiative.

The minister said Ottawa’s decision to push back a self-imposed deadline to the end of February from year-end had nothing to do with pressure from Washington over security concerns. They will work with the Turkish government to find suitable candidates from that country. Security screening will be done overseas, now, instead of in Canada.

Trudeau, making his second whirlwind tour on the global summit circuit in as many weeks, is on his way to Buckingham Palace this morning for an audience with Queen Elizabeth. Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey are being targeted. The Government of Canada is working with other orders of government, non-governmental organizations, partners and Canadians across the country to help ensure successful integration of Syrian refugees into their new host communities, where they will begin to build their new lives in Canada.
