Rousey wins Best Fighter ESPY, takes jab at Mayweather
Surely, he knows who she is after Wednesday night’s ESPY Awards.
Ronda Rousey has once again proven that she is one of this generation’s most highly sought after athletes as she takes home the “Fighter of the Year” Award on this year’s ESPYs ceremony.
“I consider myself a badge of masculinity”, Rousey said. Mayweather, of course, has drawn headlines outside the ring for years over multiple domestic-violence incidents and arrests.
He served two months of a 90-day sentence after making a plea deal to domestic assault and pleading no contest to harassment charges.
Rousey also won the ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete for a second year in a row. She is the favorite to win against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro on August 1 but fans still can’t wait to see the fight.
“It would be very easy for her to have a big head: [Speaking as if he were Rousey], ‘I can beat anybody in this world.’ I don’t know”.
As Rousey flipped a male sparring partner to the canvas, Tyson said that “this doesn’t look fun anymore”, to which Rousey replied, “It’s fun to me”. In a 2014 interview, Mayweather claimed he didn’t know who “he” was.
And in beating Mayweather to the punch this year, Rousey took the clear golden opportunity to have another spectacular verbal dig at the man who calls himself “Money.”
“I don’t know, I always say that if I had more time, maybe it would have been a different decision”.
After winning his May 2 bout against Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather was criticised for his tactics of holding on top bis opponent during the fight. So the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champ waited for the ideal moment to unleash the burn of all burns.
Mayweather was asked about the UFC champion, and said he “didn’t know who he is”.
“Yeah, I thought it’d get a big reaction”, Rousey said.
A media day was held for Rousey at Glendale Fight Club on Thursday (July 16, 2015) and she explained her reasons for keeping her rebuttal bottled up for so long.
