Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial Out For Manchester United’s Trip to Watford
Briefly on Saturday afternoon following United’s 2-1 win at Watford the Reds were top of the Premier League before being dislodged by Leicester City.
“A fantastic pass from Ander Herrera”.
Van Gaal said: “In the first half, Memphis was superb, like Jesse Lingard”.
For that reason, Rooney hopes his team-mate will be back in action soon, if not in time for Saturday’s trip to Watford.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has underlined the importance of winning Champions League home matches, ahead of his side’s meeting with PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
“I only saw him the day after he played then he was at home yesterday so I think he can’t play (against Watford)'”.
With captain Wayne Rooney and forward Anthony Martial mising because of an injury, Jesse Lingard was United’s most risky player causing problems for the Watford defence with his pace.
“I think it is, for every human being in this world, a big blow, so I don’t think I have to mention what our discussions were”.
Van Gaal said after the game at the Philips Stadion that Shaw could be back by March.
“We are that maybe for one hour but it is the second time we have done that now”.
The absence of those three players may opened the door for the out-of-favour Dutch global Depay who responded with a well taken opening goal before Bastian Schweinsteiger forced the own-goal victor at Vicarage Road.
Memphis Depay scored on his first league start in eight weeks at Watford, but he will need to do more to convince his manager he deserves to stay in the team long term.
“You can have a lot of difficulties to keep all the players with confidence, but it’s true it wasn’t our team in the first half”.
Herrera’s departure shortly after brought a tactical reshuffle from United, but Memphis and Lingard continued to shine in attack, despite the latter missing a gilt-edged chance shortly before Troy Deeney’s 87th-minute equaliser.
On Deeney, Sanchez Flores added: “It’s a pity because as always he was very fearless to accept the challenge to score the penalty”.
“Each of us [at centre-half] have got our positive traits that we like to show in the games”.
