PS4 surpasses 30 million sales
The company said that as of 22 November it had sold 30.2 million PlayStation 4s since the console was released in late 2013.
We’ve got only two days to go before Black Friday, and the most sought-after items shoppers will be going for, as we’ve said before, include consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Lifetime sales of the PlayStation 4 are now simmering north of 30 million units, but do you think that Sony’s flagship console has the mileage to reach PlayStation 2’s eye-watering total of 155 million units?
Sony Computer Entertainment’s President and Global CEO Andrew House, says that the company wants to thank its fans as they couldn’t have done it without them.
Sony made the PlayStation business a new pillar of the group, and the arm is expanding its services beyond the traditional game business where users would buy a single game title at a retail store or via network download. The software giant confirmed it would stop revealing sales numbers for the Xbox One earlier this year, but according to VGChartz, Microsoft has sold 15.6 million units since launch. It predicts it will ship 17.5 million PS4s by the end of the financial year.
It’s certainly the biggest console around right now and those figures also see it become the fastest selling PlayStation console in history.
Sony’s recent announcement has only gone to confirm that. How does the PS4 compare to competing consoles in terms of unit sales? Probably some of the best deals that shoppers can look forward to are attached to the new generation consoles. Not allowing PS3 games through this might also have a financial reason behind it as Sony would also want to promote PlayStation Now – a service which lets you stream a wide variety of PS3 titles.
Sony’s figures came after it cut the price of the console in Japan, the USA and Europe ahead of the holiday season, to help maintain purchasing momentum.
