Injuries: Rex Ryan thinks Tyrod Taylor will play
Sounds familiar, right? That’s what they all say when they lose to the Patriots. “That’s a mistake. We shouldn’t have blown the whistle”, said the NFL’s Dean Blandino.
Ryan said he felt disrespected by the officials’ decision to penalize him, pondering whether counterpart Bill Belichick would have received the same treatment. On 3rd and 10 from the BUF 20, Brady took the snap and looked to his left.
Bills coach Rex Ryan praised Brady’s ability to weather the storm, despite being pressured and hit throughout the game.
Lining up under center, Brady began barking out an unusual signal: “Rex Ryan!” The Patriots did get their offensive tackles back. I think that was based on frustration, not being healthy and things.
Then Brady started doing Brady things, and the New England Patriots started doing what they do, coming out ahead one crucial play after another Monday night. Along with Carolina QB Cam Newton, Brady is considered one of the favorites to win the MVP award.
Watching Monday night’s game, it was clear the Bills were frustrating Tom Brady and the day after, the numbers back that claim up. But they were up 10-3 at the time, and ended up winning 20-13.
Following a 41-yard pass to Amendola, who finished with nine catches for 117 yards, the Patriots went back up by a touchdown on a six-yard White run. LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins are the top fantasy football options for the Bills, while Karlos Williams and Robert Woods could be sleeper options for team owners.
Every power ranking you’ll read today will have Patriots first and Panthers second.
In the end, the Patriots were the better team and deserved the win. “That’s what championship teams do”. But the clock ran out to seal the Patriots’ victory, and head referee Gene Steratore told a pool reporter after the game that Watkins was ruled to be “giving himself up”.
Michael Weinreb is the author of Season of Saturdays: A History of College Football in 14 Games, now out in paperback. With the crowd booing, the Patriots kept moving and Gostkowski missed wide right from 54 yards – ending his streak of 31 straight field goals overall and 52 at home. Occasionally, Gronkowski was guarded by cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Ronald Darby, but the key was to play physical with the tight end throughout the game so that he couldn’t get free releases off the line of scrimmage.
Fumbled punts didn’t help either. McKelvin bobbled another punt before the Bills’ final possession, but fell on the ball at the 16-yard line.
New England held Buffalo’s risky running game to 94 yards on 3.1 yards per rush, including containing duel-threat quarterback Tyrod Taylor to just one yard on four attempts. By the latter part of the third quarter of this game, he had a receiving and rushing touchdown.
“I’m not going into a game trying to force it one guy or another”, he said.
“I see a team that’s really peeking”, said Ryan. Taylor hurt his shoulder and though Ryan said Tuesday he thinks he’ll be able to play, if he’s hampered, how productive can he be because the injury is to his throwing shoulder?
