Former boxing champion killed in Atlanta
Bell was one of two people shot Wednesday morning in the 1800 block of Harbin Road.
The retired fighter, nicknamed “Super Nova”, was getting off a MARTA bus at 12:30 a.m. when four thieves swerved by in a stolen 2006 PT Cruiser, Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton said during a press conference.
A former boxing champion has been shot dead as he got off a bus in Atlanta.
The other victim, who reportedly was not with Bell, was taken to a nearby Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Police do not think the suspects knew who Bell was.
Authorities said the victims had been gunned down by two suspects driving a red PT Cruiser.
Atlanta police said the same men in the same vehicle also robbed someone on Delowe Street in East Point, just hours before the double shooting.
Sad news to report from Atlanta.
Bell was an accomplished boxer and held the WBA, WBC and IBF cruiserweight titles during his 13-year run.
It’s a tragic ending for Bell who was born in Jamaica and immigrated to the U.S. to live his own American Dream.
