Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. in “Captain America: Civil War” trailer
It’s a long, great article that’s totally worth a full read, but we’ve picked out some of the biggest intel they shared.
Not so, dear reader.
The Civil War stars unveiled the film’s poster and premiered the official trailer on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and produced by Kevin Feige. Would that make it any easier for the top dog of the Marvel franchise to take?
Based on the popular 2007 “Civil War” comic book miniseries, the flick centers on a major schism in the superhero community that pits Captain America (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).
Or maybe he’s just jealous of the bromance between Steve and Bucky.
Joe Russo on William Hurt appearing as Thunderbolt Ross: “The job is to tie all these films together”. And after the city-state of Sokovia was ripped from the Earth in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the governments of the world have forged accords that would require all would-be heroes to prove their goodwill by working under strict oversight.
Superheroes, however, have a different way of working through their feelings than the rest of us.
The directors revealed that the trailer’s opening shot, with Cap, The Falcon and Bucky, doesn’t happen early on in the film, teasing that there is a “fairly involved” story about how Cap finally tracks down Bucky. “He’s cornering the Avengers politically now, he’s out-manoeuvring them”. “Examining the third acts of all the Marvel movies, we’re saying, if you could point to the collateral damage in all those incidents, could you use that against the Avengers to control them?”
Still from the Trailer for Captain America: Civil War.
“We felt like it was the cleanest way to draw a line and highlight that this is Captain America 3, and not Avengers 2 and a half”. It’s a vibranium weave, a mesh, nearly like a chainmail. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opens in US theaters on May.
