Aldi spoofs John Lewis Man on the Moon ad
Supermarket Aldi has chose to take a spoofy spin on the popular John Lewis Christmas advert to promote its latest deal.
It may be short and sweet, but Aldi’s “Telescope Christmas Ad” hits John Lewis right where it hurts: with a price comparison of their telescopes (Aldi’s comes out £40 cheaper, natch).
People across the country were in tears when the original ad landed, but this amusing new version features our favourite man on the moon and he looks like he’s having the craic.
Jonathan Neale, Aldi’s joint managing director of corporate buying, said: “Jean quickly became a national treasure for her love of our Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin when she first appeared on screens in 2011”.
Jean – who starred in the discount store’s Aldi “Like Brands” gin ads in 2011 – was such a hit with viewers, she was called back into action for the spoof.
‘We’re confident our customers will be excited by her return this Christmas, ‘ he added.
The John Lewis advert had been watched around 5.9 million times within the first 24 hours of it appearing on YouTube earlier this month.
In the advert, which is a cleverly made spoof of John Lewis’ Christmas effort, set against the soundtrack of Half The World Away, the gentleman turns to the John Lewis product saying, “I like this one”, before turning to the Aldi version saying “And I like this one”.
