Newborn baby found abandoned in Christmas nativity scene at church
New York City police said the custodian turned to a nativity scene in the front of the church and saw a newborn baby wrapped in towels laying in the manger.
The miracle baby was abandoned at Queens’ Holy Child Jesus Church in Richmond Hill.
A newborn baby has been found abandoned in a church nativity scene in NY. Then I hear a child crying.
“I try and make it back to the home country as much as possible”, he said.
“With umbilical cord still attached, and wrapped in a blanket, the baby was found placed in the manger”. ‘He still had the umbilical cord attached. “He was next to the Virgin (Mary)”, Mr Jose told the New York Daily News.
Whatever happens next with “baby Jesus”, he has started life very blessed.
Officials are not yet sure of the mother’s identity and the child is being cared for at a hospital.
Father Heanue claims that several parishioners have already inquired about adopting the baby, believing that the child was sent to the parish for a reason, and should remain with a family that worships there.
NY state law allows for newborns to be anonymously surrendered at safe havens, which includes churches, police stations, firehouses and hospitals, as long as the infant is given to an appropriate person.
Corrine Gower, who was visiting Holy Child on Tuesday, told The New York Post, “the mother did the right thing by bringing the baby here”.
This is one “abandonment” story that resulted in a lovely outcome.
“I think it’s lovely”, Father Heanue said.
Because the mom didn’t surrender the baby to a person, she is now under investigation by the police.
Surveillance video reportedly captured a woman entering the church about 20 minutes before the baby was found.
Doctors said they believe the child was born just five or six hours before he was left in baby Jesus’ manger.
