Five people hospitalised are in a critical condition.
“It scared the s*** out of me going through there, and I couldn’t go back because the fire was behind as well”, the other man said.
Sixteen homes have been destroyed along with cars, farm buildings and machinery.
Jay Weatherill confirmed two people had been killed in fires on Wednesday that consumed an estimated 85,000 hectares of grass, cropping land and scrub.

South Australians hit by a devastating bushfire north of Adelaide will receive free legal aid.
At least two people have been killed and several injured by huge wildfires which have destroyed homes near the Australian city of Adelaide and continue to burn out of control, officials said. “We have just lost the hay shed there with 1,000 bales of new season’s hay”, Mr Kemp said.
He said he was later pulled over volunteers who had a dog with them, which they asked him to take to a nearby police station.
“We hold grave fears for many more (and) can’t be entirely sure we have identified every single person in the fire ground”, he said.
The Country Fire Service said the blaze continued to burn on a 40 km (24 mile) front, with a perimeter of about 211 km.
“There will be time for us to reflect on this in due course but we are in the middle of a unsafe situation”, the premier said.
At least two houses have been damaged as well as a piggery, with the ABC reporting around 9000 pigs could have been burned alive.
The blaze continues to burn around a series of towns including Owen, Hamley Bridge, Tarlee, Freeling, Wasleys, Kapunda and Greenock but the threat has been reduced to a watch and act alert for locals. Crews would now concentrate on the northeast corner of the fire which was proving most hard to bring under control.
Weather conditions were expected to moderate on Thursday with lower temperatures and winds dropping during the day.
Fire crews including CFS, MFS and Victorian resources spent the night on the fire ground monitoring flare ups.
