AMAs 2015: Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez And Celine Dion Among Best
“France matters, Syria matters, Russian Federation matters, Mali matters, the Middle East matters”.
Whether you wanted to see it or not, Meghan Trainor’s full on make-out session with Charlie Puth happened right at the end of their performance of “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” and “Marvin Gaye“. He also picked up nominations for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Fans Choice Award in 2003 but did not win.
The ceremony, which was hosted by Jennifer Lopez and held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California, featured a performance by Celine Dion. “This is a testament to how incredible our fans are”, Louis Tomlinson said onstage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Referring to 1D’s hiatus, which will start in March, he added: “We are obviously going on a little break now to spend a little time with our families and obviously we want to thank our families”.
One Direction is nominated for artist of the year, pitting the group against Grande, Bryan, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
Singer Sam Hunt won the favorite new artist award, while Justin Bieber, Skrillex, and Diplo won the award for best collaboration for their song “Where Are Ü Now”. He graced the stage sans backup dancers while the fire raged on in the backdrop and everyone in the audience sang along. Eager to stand out in an increasingly crowded award-show scene, the production doubled down on would-be big moments but ended up sacrificing much of its breezy charm.
But Bieber’s position at No. 1 won’t last long – Adele just released her new album. It beat out One Direction’s Made in the A.M.
The Weeknd’s performance was also a favorite, and he walked away with two awards, and presented the first one from Prince.
The Favorite Soul/RB Album (Beauty Behind the Madness) and Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist went to The Weekend, who crooned The Hills.
Nicki Minaj won Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and “The Pinkprint” was named Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album. She encouraged her feverish fans to “find their voice”. “And please find your voice and find your goal before it’s too late”. She sang Heartbeat during the show.
Swift is the leading AMAs nominee with six.
The Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist victor was Ariana Grande.
Not only did Pentatonix, the hit a cappella group, perform the iconic score from the “Star Wars” movies, but a new scene from highly-anticipated “The Force Awakens” played before.
