Apple To Adopt OLED For iPhones From 2018: Nikkei

A report coming from Japanese publication Nikkei reveals that Apple’s already discussing with LG Display a possible collaboration on OLED displays, as the company wants the 2018 iPhone to be the first model to feature such technology.

The Nikkei further adds that Apple’s move to opt for OLED will put pressure on suppliers to further improve the technology that will be required to be produced in more numbers.

Do you think that Apple will make the shift to OLED for the iPhone, and when do you think it will be implemented? Now according to a latest report, Apple could tap Samsung to manufacture and supply OLED displays for iPhone 8, which is expected to release sometime in 2018.

“These OLED displays perfectly complement the advanced technology that our airport has become known for”, said Park Wan-su, president and CEO at Incheon International Airport.

There is a rumor in the air that future iPhones from Apple like the iPhone 7 will be able to squirt water from the speaker ports, thanks to the advancement in technology being made by Apple Inc. LG Display has reportedly commenced work on expanding its production line, but the company is not expected to meet the expansive demand for the number of iPhones Apple ships out globally.

The report goes on to say that Samsung is the only company that can reliably mass-produce enough OLED smartphone screens.

MacRumors however did point out that infamous KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come as saying the opposite is true, that Apple is unlikely to adopt OLED display for the iPhone at all, despite the fact the Apple Watch is now powered by OLED.

Samsung’s initiative that will see it supply Apple smartphones with OLED displays is a smart step towards ensuring perpetual growth, reports BGR.

There were also speculations that the United States firm may offer both OLED and LCD iPhones owing to LG’s limit to ramp up the production. The iPhone 7 release date is pegged for September or October 2016, continuing the already set release cycle Apple has been following throughout the past few years.
