Manchester United are like a Subbuteo team, says Paul Merson
The former Manchester United midfielder launched the attack on captain Rooney’s professionalism in the aftermath of the goalless draw with PSV.
Paul Merson says Manchester United are like a Subbuteo team after they endured another frustrating night against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Barrett was alerted to Keane’s comments during ITV’s Champions League coverage by a fan on Twitter who encouraged the wrestler to perform his wrestling “finishing move” the Bull Hammer on Rooney.
“Wayne was on about lack of composure and quality, and he was as guilty as anybody”.
Rooney slapped Barrett after being goaded by his long-standing adversary, who previously accused the Manchester United forward of trying to cheat against Barrett’s hometown club Preston North End.
“You look at Wayne’s legacy at Old Trafford, it’s absolutely fantastic, his goals record is brilliant. He needs to have a look at himself”, Keane added, and it seems like the United legend has a point.
With Rooney struggling, perhaps the time has come for Van Gaal, who is not shy about letting the world know of his his willingness to promote young players, to give an emerging talent Andreas Pereira a chance, or to hand Juan Mata the No. 10 role he craves? Keane believes that part of the problem lies in Rooney’s off-field antics, in which he was recently seen slapping a wrestler at a WWE event – something the former United skipper labelled as “nonsense”, saying that “there’s no benefit” to Rooney.
“I always question certain players. I’d have a look at that”. He doesn’t look sharp.
“Mentally he doesn’t look really sharp, physically he doesn’t look in great shape. He has to have a look at himself”.
