Russian Federation unleashes cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea at targets across Syria
The report came as Russian Federation yesterday unleashed cruise missiles from warships in the Caspian Sea at targets across Syria, the defence minister said, as Moscow kept up its intensified bombardments in the war-torn country.
The country’s Ministry of Defence say the 18 strikes were aimed at extremists in the Syrian cities of Aleppo, Idlib and Raqqa – Islamic State’s de facto capital.
US officials said last month four missiles launched from Russian warships in the Caspian Sea had crashed in Iran, but Russia insisted they had reached their targets in Syria.
Moscow said yesterday its warplanes had hit 472 targets in Syria over the past two days, including tanker trucks and oil infrastructure in areas controlled by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group. The Kremlin has used the air campaign in Syria to showcase an array of new weapons, including state-of-the art cruise missiles.
Russian Federation is pounding the Islamic State jihadists in Syria with bombs emblazoned with the words “For our people” and “For Paris” after Moscow vowed vengeance following the bombing of a plane over Sinai.
Russian Federation said it fired cruise missiles for a fourth day against IS targets. “Daesh and Assad are related”, says one Syrian in Paris, using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State. He says this deprived IS of $1.5 million in daily income from oil sales. The strike was part of a massive missile and bombing blitz by Russia over the first four days of the week that has inflicted serious damage on the ISIS militants there, according to an announcement Friday by Russia Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.
In a recent interview to China’s Phoenix TV Channel, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that Russian airstrikes have turned the tide of the war and the Syrian army is now gaining ground at the expense of the terrorists’ positions. Russia concluded that it was a bomb that blew up the plane, killing 224 people, almost all of them Russians.
Russian military are inscribing “For Paris” on bombs destined for targets in Syria, in solidarity with the victims of the Paris attacks.
“At least 36 people were killed and dozens more injured in more than 70 raids carried out by Russian and Syrian planes against several districts in Deir Ezzor”, Rami Abdul Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group told AFP.
