Nagaland MP Khekiho Zhimomi dies in Delhi hospital
The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed shock and grief at the sudden demise of Khekiho Zhimomi, sitting MP (Rajya Sabha) from Nagaland at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi this morning due to cardiac arrest.
“Father was admitted to AIIMS three days ago as he was not keeping well”. He was shifted to ICU on Wednesday evening and was declared dead at 6.20 am on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha observed two-minutes’ silence as a mark of respect to Zhimomi following which the House was adjourned for the rest of the day.
A social worker, Zhimomi represented Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha from July 2008 to April 2010 and from April 2010 till date. He also served as the Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Born on February 19, 1946, in Nagaland, he leaves behind seven daughters and two sons. Lok Sabha MP and former Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio, former Supreme Court Judge HK Sema, Centres interlocutor for Naga talks RN Ravi, Delhi Naga Students Federation representatives among others were present at the condolence service.
President Pranab Mukherjee condoled the passing away of Zhimomi, saying that he had served the nation with distinction in various capacities and dedicated his life for the welfare and development of the people and State of Nagaland.
An active social worker who strived for uplift of weaker and backward sections of the society, Zhimomi had recently visited Myanmar with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the signing of a peace pact between several insurgent groups and the Myanmar government.
