Russia refuted Turkey’s statement, saying the Russian plane was in Syrian airspace when it was shot down.
The BBC reported that the audio, released by the Turkish military, records a voice speaking in English and saying, “Change your heading south immediately”.
He also said Turkey had not given assurances that “the culprits of the crime” will be punished. “Joint projects may be halted, ties could be cut”? He gave a speech to local officials insisting Turkey has always been fighting against Islamist extremists.
“First the politicians and our militaries should sit down and talk about where errors were made and then focus on overcoming those errors on both sides. Nobody has the right to dispute our country’s fight against Daesh or to incriminate us”.
“Had it ever occurred to us that it’s possible, Russia would have deployed its S-400 class anti-aircraft systems in Syria long ago and would have used other means to protect its aircraft – fighter escort, thermal guard etc.”, the Russian president said.
“The fact that Turkey did not try to contact Russian Federation in the wake of the incident and rushed to call a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meeting instead is worrisome”.
He said in the Kremlin: “Until that moment, we haven’t heard a clear apology from Turkey’s top political leadership, or an offer to compensate for the damage or a promise to punish the criminals who committed that crime”.
Turkey’s military said it has invited Russian military attaches to its headquarters and explained that Ankara shot down the jet because its rules of engagement went into effect after the plane did not respond to its warnings. A day prior to the downing of the Su-24, Russian airstrikes destroyed over 1,000 semi-truck tankers carrying crude oil to ISIL refineries, a large oil storage facility and an oil refinery in Syria. “You’re approaching Turkish airspace”.
The Turkish military officials also repeated Turkey’s argument that they have warned 10 times in five minutes, the pilots of the Russian jet, not to violate the Turkish airspace.
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, urged Russian tourists to avoid Turkey due to “safety concerns”. Putin branded the move a “stab in the back”, and said it would have serious consequences for Turkish-Russian relations.
“This is only natural in the light of Turkey’s unpredictable actions”, Peskov said.
