Stanford vs. California Prediction, Game Preview
The Bears are bowl eligible for the first time since 2011, but the loss to Stanford dropped them to 0-9 in Dykes’ three years against their in-state rivals from the Pac-12.
Considered the most unusual finish in the sport’s 147-year history, the Golden Bears’ 25-20 victory came on a kickoff return touchdown after the Cardinal took a 20-19 lead on a field goal with four seconds remaining in a thrilling game. A win this week would seal their berth in the Pac-12 Championship game, while a loss would allow OR a chance to sneak in. Now, the Bears have their sights firmly fixed on a new skid, hoping to grab The Axe for the first time since 2009.
Stanford, with two losses, looks to keep their playoff dream alive with a win in The Big Game against rival Cal. Stanford has held the upper hand in this series over the last few years as Cal’s seniors surely know.
California is 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games against Stanford in November, but … Moments later, running back Bryce Love’s 48-yard score effectively sealed Stanford’s 35-22 win, its sixth consecutive Big Game victory. As a fifth-year senior, the Cal safety is well-versed in the football rivalry with Stanford that will see its 118th installment played Saturday. However, we have not gathered here today to discuss the football teams or the intelligentsia at either of these schools. Check out the Stanford vs. California prediction and game preview.
Stanford Cardinal running back Christian McCaffrey probably isn’t going to win the Heisman Trophy this season, but he’s been incredible to watch this season and highly prolific in the process.
While those hopes to get into the playoff were dealt a severe blow last week, coach David Shaw is confident his players aren’t dwelling on their lost opportunity.
NOOOO – the father of Utah running back confirmed Devontae Booker is out for the rest of the regular season after having knee surgery Thursday. Still, the 6-foot-5, 325-pound offensive lineman has generated quite a buzz in the wake of a viral video showing him making two blocks on one play against Washington. Shaw said he has never asked Scarlett anything about what the Bears do and doesn’t plan to this week either. “If we can do those two things, typically it’s going to be a good day for us, and if we can’t, it’s more of a struggle”.
“It’s a huge honor to establish ourselves as the Pac-12 North champions”, McCaffrey said.
“He’s an awesome quarterback, and they have a lot of weapons this year, ” Martinez said.
I surely don’t need to remind you of the importance of this game. Both Vereen and Mohamed say they stay in touch with friends, teammates and are closely watching every Cal game.
That’s a shame, too, because you missed a virtuoso performance by one of, if not the single, best players in college football. That group includes USC’s Marcus Allen in 1981 (232.6), Stanford’s Glyn Milburn in ’90 (202.0) and USC’s Reggie Bush in 2005 (222.3) and Marqise Lee in ’12 (206.4).
McCaffrey was one of the things that was out of the Bears’ control.
OR finally found the winning formula last week. The two have combined for 15 starts, all this season, and have impressed with their ability to get into the backfield.
“We’ll certainly find out Saturday”, Dykes said.
“What we did is nothing to sneeze at”, Shaw said. But if the Cardinal plays press coverage and collapses the pocket before Goff can unload the ball, the Bears are doomed.
The Bears then cut the lead with a field goal with 51 seconds left but were unable to carry that good feeling into the half when McCaffrey ran back the ensuing kick untouched for another score. “Christian exploded and did what he does, finishing in the end zone”.
