Barcelona: Neymar Contract Renewal Imminent
Barcelona have moved to put an end to speculation surrounding Neymar‘s future by insisting he will sign a new contract at the club.
Neymar, whose current deal expires in 2018, has been one of the Catalan giants’ key players this season, and talks over a contract extension have been taking place since the start of the campaign.
However, the Spain-based duo have had a stranglehold on the award since 2008, with Portugal’s Ronaldo winning it three times (2008, 2013 and 2014) and Messi winning four awards (2009-2012).
Both players spent one season together at the Camp Nou before the Spaniard made his way to the Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old will reportedly ink a six-year deal that will play him £10.5 million per year, which will make him the third-highest paid player in the world behind Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Neymar has led Barcelona’s attack superbly in the absence of Lionel Messi, who only recently returned from a knee injury that had kept him sidelined for two months.
“Neymar is content and happy at Barcelona and that’s the most important thing for us”, Fernandez added.
“I could have chosen Cristiano as well as Neymar”, the Selecao icon told Goal. “We must face the situation calmly, thinking that if we have now finalized Rafinha’s renewal, an agreement for Neymar’s renewal will also be reached”.
Neymar has netted 12 goals in 11 La Liga outings in 2015/16.
