Tycoon throws big, fat Kerala wedding
With a net worth of $2.8 billion, one of the richest Keralites, Pillai, the Chairman and Managing Director of R P Group of Companies, is spending around 55 crores for the big-fat wedding of his daughter.
A team of 200 professionals has created a 350,000 sq ft pandal, spread over 20 acres, with an investment of Rs 20 crore.
Ravi Pillai is the owner of the RC group in the Middle East, the group is said to have ventured into various business across 26 countries with a staff of 80,000.
As far as the guest list goes, some of the most well-known names graced the occasion with their presence such as CEOs of Japan Gas Corporation, family members from royal lineages of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, and movie stars Mohanlal and Mammootty.
The visually appealing set of “Baahubali” will be remade for the wedding of Kerala NRI tycoon Ravi Pillai’s daughter.
The spendings on weddings will also include Rs 10 crore for humanitarian initiatives to help cancer patients.
Talking about the grand affair, Cyril told a leading daily, “The design is unique for this event”.
Along with that, the sets will have the feel of Rajasthan’s royal palaces.
As part of the pre-wedding celebrations, singer Manjari’s ghazals and actress Navya Nair’s dance fusion took place at Hotel Raviz in Kollam on Tuesday. “And it will take us a fortnight to dismantle it and clear the ground back to its original form, ” Cyril said.
Chartered flights carrying India’s Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Bahrain royal family arrived yesterday, the report said. An elaborate security blanket has been thrown over Kollam. The security detail at the wedding included around 250 policemen and 350 private detail cops.
