Schoolies charged over Gold Coast attack
Eighteen-year-old Maddy Khal chimed-in and also hit and spat on the victim while he lay unconscious on the ground.
He was granted bail when he appeared at Southport Magistrates Court.
He had regained consciousness and was in a stable condition yesterday afternoon.
TWO schoolies have been charged over a violent Gold Coast fight that’s left a third teenager in an induced coma. It’s alleged Khal and El-Nacher had got into a verbal confrontation with the victim before it turned physical.
Khal claims he didn’t spit on the man but spit had come out of his mouth after he yelled the Arabic word “haram” at him.
The victim, who was conscious by the time police arrived at the scene, didn’t press any charges against his alleged attackers.
About 25,000 school leavers have converged on Queensland’s Gold Coast for the first week of post-school celebrations and police have praised the behaviour of the vast majority of schoolies.
Both have been granted bail and will return to court on January 5.
In relation to non-schoolies overnight police arrested 9 people on 12 charges mainly for public nuisance, street and drug offences with seven non-schoolies receiving liquor infringement notices.
Police went ahead, however, after he reported to a Queensland Ambulance Service tent at the Schoolies hub before being taken to hospital.
Police said overnight there were 11 male schoolies arrested on 13 charges which were for public nuisance, street and assault offences.
