Bills get banged up in loss to Patriots
Was this simply the result of an off night or is this the beginning of a trend for a fully depleted offense?
In the third, both teams fumbled on the same punt.
The Bills flustered and hurried Brady on nearly every drop-back, but he was still able to come up with as many pinpoint throws as the Patriots needed to win the game. “It just happens to be this week”, Brady said. There were three times the Patriots looked like the dream of perfection would end. McCoy comes in after putting up 123 yards total against the Patriots and he had 20 carries for 82 yards in the game.
“I was close because I asked the young man, ‘Listen, don’t be a hero here”. They’ve played two games without posting an offensive touchdown, and only twice have scored more than two TDs offensively. “They’ve blown some teams out and it’s complimentary football”. First the refs blew the whistle. Whistles all over the place. Because I truly believe Sammy is that good. It was clear Watkins wasn’t “giving himself up”, but rather falling backwards in an effort to get out of bounds without being touched. The injuries are hitting key players and then the replacement player is going down. “We just didn’t do it as well as we’re capable of last night”.
– LeGarrette Blount didn’t have much room to run behind the Patriots’ offensive line, but as usual, he showed off nice power as he got a head of steam. “I’m not a doctor, but they feel he’s going to be just fine”. Receiver Danny Amendola, who had been stepping up in the absence of Julian Edelman, left the game with a knee injury. Could Amendola have slipped the tackle and taken off? At one point, Rex said, “Why are you even talking to me?” That was just not the case. The officials ruled the ball was dead at the spot of the catch, a 14-yard gain. Tom Brady is basically in the officials huddle before every call, but he is never penalized. In the first quarter, Brady called an audible to switch what appeared to be a run from the left side of the formation to the right side. Nobody should question that.
With the way the Brady has played this season – an MVP-worthy 3,320 yards passing and 24 touchdowns in 10 games – the Patriots haven’t had to rely on the ground game too often this season.
There’s no doubt that when he plays, he’s incredibly useful. But how long can the Patriots keep up the pace?
These should be the players that have the most say in what kind of stat line Gronk compiles Sunday night.
Heading into the 20-13 loss at New England, the Bills wanted to exploit what they viewed as a mismatch with Chris Hogan vs. safety Patrick Chung.
Still, the defense is starting to look more and more dominant as the weeks go by. Hughes had six of those, including one hit. Then some idiot comes along and cheap shots you for absolutely no discernable reason other than that they are trying to take all of that away from you.
Whatever he did to learn it, it’s probably a good thing that he did. My go-to picks are always illegal formation or illegal contact. I truly hate to see these great athletes actually be given an arena to compete; I much prefer to see flags fly. Some justice was served in the end – the Patriots ended up with 29 yards – but how we got there was an absolute calamity.
No doubt Brady needed a massage from Giselle when he got home.
“It’s not about me; I don’t want to make it about me”. “They wanted to rest my throwing today”.
-Edelman may be gone, and Amendola may be at least temporarily injured, but the #FerociousJuke lived to fight another day. It’s pretty challenging to find things on tape that you like.
-James White did a very nice job in what was for sure his best game as a pro. Realistically no one is ever recommending to bench the best tight end in the league, but start Gronk with caution.
“We are going to do anything it takes to win the game, whether we have to run the ball or throw the ball”, receiver Brandon LaFell said.
Nice little stiff-arm, too.
10b. Rex Ryan-Speaking of comedic relief.
Taylor seemed to injure his right shoulder or collar bone late in the fourth quarter – bad enough that EJ Manuel warmed up on the sideline – but the extent of Taylor’s problem was unknown as of this posting.
Which doesn’t mean last night’s game wasn’t particularly rough.
