The 29-year-old receiver’s injury is a tough setback for the Pats since in the previous week, they lost running back Dion Lewis for the season after he sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in their game against the Washington Redskins. Trumaine McBride had kept the Pats, leading 24-23, from breaking the game open with the interception he returned to the 3, and the Giants had marched all the way to the New England 5 on a 30-yard throw to Dwayne Harris and then a brilliant back-shoulder toss to Harris for 18.

“With the competitive group of guys we have here on defense, that’s always something we want to do”, Brinkley said. Brady clearly trusts him, and he’s going to be looking at a large workload in an explosive offense.

“All I really think about is don’t kick the ball too hard because a lot of times when I miss kicks, it’s when I really try to kill it”, Gostkowski said, adding that he sang a song in his head to tune out the noise and other distractions prior to attempting his game-winning kick. That is in addition to an offensive line that has been in constant flux this season and got exposed a bit by the Giants.

After the game, he was seen in crutches while his left foot had a boot in it. The team originally announced that he is questionable to return to the game, but that was later changed to “would not return”.

– The Giants clock management gets a penalty flag. If the Giants had run the ball thrice, gotten stopped on each, and settled for a field goal, the Patriots would have gotten the ball back with about a minute remaining.
