Klopp: The best part about our win today was the “passion”
Jurgen Klopp declared himself highly satisfied with the display of his team after they racked up an emphatic 4-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday – but remained adamant Liverpool can perform even better.
Manchester City may be the Premier League leaders but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not interested in who is the best in the league – unless it is his own side.
On what proved a chastening night for Raheem Sterling against his old club, Liverpool enjoyed a whirlwind start, with an own goal from Eliaquim Mangala and strikes from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino inside 32 minutes.
“It was far from flawless but was very good, we took our chances and made our goals”.
Since Agüero has been absent City have qualified for the Champions League knockout stage with two games to spare, they are in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals and lead the Premier League.
“What we try to do is analyse the opponent, and see what they’re biggest strength is – then we have things we can do”, he said.
“The good news is that we can do better”. City have relied on four or five players in the last few years, but they now have more players that are capable of stepping in when the key players are injured. After we must think about the game we play on Wednesday.
“It’s always special, not only for Raheem, to play against a team (where) they spent a lot of years, for James Milner the same, that is part of the career of the player and they are now defending another shirt”, Pellegrini said. I don’t know how many friends Raheem had here or has here.
One player who could substantially improve the Reds if fit is Daniel Sturridge, though Klopp has urged patience amid the striker’s return to the squad following prolonged injury problems.
City will be hoping the Argentine will continue a run of scoring in all three of his Premier League appearances against Liverpool at the Etihad. He wanted to go to have another challenge and you must understand if a player does not want to stay here, you can not do any more to convince him. We tried to change at half-time but it was the same. “It’s not normal (for us) to play in this way”, Pellegrini said. “He’s a great player though it will be odd to see him wearing another team’s colours”, Aguero said.
