Putin: Russia Ready for Anti-Terror Cooperation With France
Obama said that there is a great cooperation potential between his Government and Russian authorities against ISIL, hence he urged Russia to join the large coalition.
The Turkish military Tuesday announced it shot down a Russian military aircraft near the Syrian border after it ignored multiple warnings and entered Turkish airspace, a charge Moscow immediately denied.
However, Hollande said France will not put troops on the ground in Syria to fight the IS. He expects the United States to play a major role in this war.
Vladimir Putin and Francois Hollande have said their forces will share more intelligence and co-ordinate strikes against the “mutual enemy” of Islamic State (IS).
“You’re paying big attention and putting a lot of efforts into the emergence of a broad antiterrorist coalition”, he said at the start of his emergency summit with Hollande in the Kremlin.
“It is about taking out their financing, hunting down their leaders, dismantling their networks and taking back the land they now control”, said Hollande.
Less than two weeks after the deadly attacks in Paris, the leaders of the United States and France sat down together to reaffirm their commitment to destroy the Islamic State militant group.
“Germany will be a more active contributor than it has been until now”, said the defense policy spokesman of her conservative CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Henning Otte, in a statement.
US President Barack Obama has called on his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to de-escalate tensions with Moscow, after Ankara downed a Russian jet on Tuesday, the White House says.
“I will ask President Putin, as I’ve done before… that the strikes must be against Daesh, against terrorism”, Hollande said. ISIS “cannot be tolerated”.
“France was struck to the bone by the horrific attacks by the IS but we know that this inhumane rage can hit us or other societies at any time too”, Von der Leyen said. After weeks of waging a separate bombing campaign, mainly targeting Syrian rebels who don’t belong to the Islamic State, Russia began striking the extremist group in earnest after a bomb brought down a Russian passenger plane last month, killing all 224 on board.
According to CNN Politics, the presidents are considering intensifying the attacks on ISIS in Syria and Iraq, especially after the Paris attacks, which seemed to have opened a new phase of the war on terror.
“We view this as the formation of a wide anti-terrorist coalition under the aegis of the United Nations”, Putin said.
The US president said the problem Washington faced was “Russia’s focus on propping up (Syrian President) Assad rather than focusing on ISIL”, using another acronym for IS.
Gov. Scott Walker on Wednesday defended his plan to not welcome Syrian refugees into Wisconsin, saying the Obama administration’s handling of the Paris terrorist attacks shows it can’t be trusted to ensure the refugees are not a threat on USA soil.
The White House signaled Monday that it already believes USA contributions to the anti-ISIS effort are sufficient.
