Ottawa’s Henry Burris CFL’s outstanding player
Ottawa Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris was honored Thursday night as the Canadian Football League’s most outstanding player.
That brotherhood and commitment to the cause will be tested Sunday against the favoured Edmonton Eskimos in the 103rd Grey Cup. Burris was 20-of-36 passing for 162 yards and an interception in a 46-17 loss at Commonwealth Stadium and was 29-of-39 for 252 yards and an interception in a 23-12 loss the following week at TD Place.
The Eskimos won over the Calgary Stampeders 45-31 to get in, while the Redblacks beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 35-28.
In just five seasons in the Canadian Football League, the Ottawa Redblacks wide receiver is in Winnipeg this weekend getting ready to compete in his third Grey Cup, but this time around it has a different feel for Sinopoli. Rick Campbell is the son of one of the greatest CFL coaches of all time, Hall of Famer Hugh Campbell. Greaves, who was traded to Edmonton midway through the season, said the move came as a bit of a surprise, but he carries no ill will towards his old club.
“From an athletic standpoint, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through in my life”, Sherritt said Wednesday after Edmonton’s first practice at Investors Group Field.
“I’m going to have a fun time enjoying it with the fans, being able to go see the Stamps House and have a couple beers with them”.
“The Grey Cup is the largest annual sporting event in Canada and Manitoba is proud to welcome football fans from across the country”, said Premier Selinger. “When you do something that you don’t expect, that’s when you get excited about it”, Ellingson said. “I know how to pick up a pigskin and throw it as far as you can”.
Bighill becomes the second straight Lion to be named top defensive player after teammate Solomon Elimimian won it past year as well as the CFL’s outstanding player award. So for all young athletes out there, all young people, don’t let anyone determine what you can do.
Still, this is the CFL, where fans can relate to the players a lot more than some other pro sports, so Mitchell is excited about the response that people want to meet him and share a drink with him.
“Chris, congratulations on your great year”, Campbell said.
“So I just want to say ‘Thank you Mom”.
Calgary kicker Rene Paredes, the 2013 award victor, was the finalist.
One team that struggled at the turnstiles this season was the Toronto Argonauts, who played four scheduled home games outside the GTA due to the Pan Am Games and scheduling issues at Rogers Centre. “But at the same time, my focus right now is on the game”.
“They’re working for one another”, said defensive back/linebacker Antoine Pruneau.
